A WhatsApp QR code opens a wa.me link: WhatsApp’s official way to start a chat with a number that is not in your contacts. You can pre-fill the first message so customers do not have to think about what to write.
The pre-filled message is the useful part. "Hi, I want to book a table for Friday" tells you where the customer came from and what they want. Use a different message on each flyer or poster and you will know which one works.
Where a WhatsApp QR code helps
Shop windows and signs
Customers message you after hours instead of walking away.
Packaging and receipts
"Problem with your order? Scan to message us." Support starts in a chat, not an email queue.
Flyers and posters
A different pre-filled message per location shows which poster brings chats.

What an editable code adds (3 free with an account)
Change the link later
The printed code stays the same. You point it somewhere new from your dashboard.
Scan stats
Scans per day and hour, countries, cities, phones and languages, without cookies or tracking pixels.
Pause a code
Turn a code off for a closed event and back on next season.
WhatsApp QR code questions
Yes. wa.me links work with both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business numbers.
Usually the country code is missing or there is a leading 0. Write the number as +44 7700 900123, not 07700 900123.
The link opens a WhatsApp web page that offers to install the app or open WhatsApp Web.
With an editable code, yes. A free static code has the number built in.
