How to change a QR code after it is printed
If the code is dynamic, you change the link in your dashboard and the printed code follows. If it is static, the link is baked in, but there are still options.
Why some codes can be changed and others cannot
A QR code is just text drawn as squares. A static code holds your final link, so the only way to change where it goes is to print a new pattern. A dynamic code holds a short link that belongs to a QR service; the service forwards each scan to the destination you have set, and you can change that destination whenever you like.
So the question is not really about the printed code. It is about who controls the short link inside it.
How to tell which kind you have
Scan the code with your phone camera and look at the address it shows before opening. If it is your own website, for example yourshop.com/menu, it is static. If it is a short address on a QR service, such as q.qrglo.com/ab3cd, it is dynamic and can be changed by whoever owns that account.
If it is dynamic but made on another service, you have to change it there. If that account is lost or the trial has ended, ask the service to restore it or plan a reprint.
Changing a dynamic code on QRGlo
The pattern on paper never changes, so there is nothing to reprint.
- 1Sign in and open Codes in your dashboard.
- 2Open the code and change the link, or the page content for menus, PDFs and other hosted types.
- 3Save, then scan the printed code to check it opens the new page.
If your printed code is static
You cannot change a static code, but you can often change what is behind it. If the link points to a page on your own site, keep that address alive and redirect it to the new page; the printed code keeps working. If it points to a file, upload the new version at the same address.
For the next print run, use a dynamic code so the problem does not come back. A free account here includes 3 dynamic codes that never expire.
