Short answers to common questions.
- Static vs editable QR codesA static code stores your link or text in the pattern itself. It is free, never expires and needs no account, but once printed it cannot change.
- Change where a printed code goesOpen the code under Codes, change the link (or the page content for hosted types) and save. The next scan goes to the new place; the printed pattern does not change.
- Reading scan statisticsAnalytics shows scans over time, a world map, countries, regions, cities, devices, systems, browsers, languages, referrers and UTM tags. Pick a time range, switch between total and unique scans, or compare up to four codes.
- Send scans to different links (rules and A/B tests)Under Rules on a code page you can route scans by country, continent, device, system, browser, in-app browser, language, referrer, time, date, new or returning visitor, or scan number. Rules are checked in order; the first match wins.
- Making product barcodesBarcodes supports EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, UPC-E, Code 128, GS1-128, Code 39, ITF-14, Data Matrix and GS1 DataMatrix. Leave off the check digit and we add it; if you type it and it is wrong, we tell you.
- AI art QR codes and logo artOpen AI art, pick one of your codes (or type a link), choose a style or describe your own, and press Generate. Painting takes one to three minutes.
- Using your own domainOn Pro, open Domains and add a subdomain such as go.yourbrand.com. At your DNS provider, add the CNAME record shown, then press Verify. It can take up to an hour for DNS to update.
- Working as a teamOpen Team to invite people by email. Viewers can look and download, editors can create and change codes and barcodes, admins can also manage members, domains, API keys and webhooks.
- Getting started with the APIOn Pro, open API and create a key. Copy it straight away: we only keep a fingerprint.
- WebhooksAdd an https URL under API → Webhooks and choose events: scans, codes created, changed or archived. We send a JSON POST within seconds.
- Passwords, schedules and scan limitsLink options on a code page let you require a password, start and stop on given dates, or stop after a number of scans and send later visitors to another link.
- Which file format to downloadPNG, JPG and WebP are pictures: good for screens, documents and most printing. SVG, PDF and EPS are vector files that stay sharp at any size: send these to your printer.
- What we record about scansFor each scan we keep the time, approximate location (country, region, city), device type, system, browser, language, referring site and where the scan was sent.
